Although I am a Japanese national, I was born and raised in Hong Kong. Growing up in this fast-paced and densely populated city, I developed a strong appreciation for nature. To this day, memories from my childhood in the woods, creeks or the ocean of Hong Kong is a source of inspiration. I feel as though memories such as smell of mist in Victoria Peak or the thrill of catching a prawn at Tai Long Bay have great impact on who I am and what I create.
I did not know anything about glassblowing nor had any interest until I watched glassblowing on TV during my high school Senior year when I was living in Thailand. It was very spontaneous how I decided that I would do this for my career. Several months later, I was in Hawaii taking my very first glassblowing class at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In 2009, I graduated from UHM with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in glass art with High Honors.
I currently reside in Berkeley, California with my wife, and work out of a studio space at NIMBY, an industrial art space in Oakland, California. I also work for other artists in the Bay Area as a gaffer as well as glassblowing assistant, and teach classes at Public Glass in San Francisco.
